The Noisy Neighbor Chronicles: A Never-Ending Saga
One of the biggest struggles? The ongoing saga with my noisy neighbor. It’s been a real-life battle of the bands, except I never signed up for it, and there are no winners. The stress has been so bad that my appetite has practically packed its bags and left. If only my sales had taken off as dramatically, I’d be thriving.
The Myth of “Less Competition = More Sales”
Speaking of sales, you’d think that with so many other shops in my niche shutting down, my business would be booming. Nope! Apparently, when people say, “it’s a tough market,” they mean, “good luck, you’re on your own.”
The Social Media Struggle: Not Everyone Wants to Be an Influencer
And of course, everyone and their dog has advised me to “just use social media more.” Because obviously, the key to success is simply posting a selfie with a cup of tea and waiting for the money to roll in, right? I’ve even been told to start making videos for YouTube or TikTok, but here’s the thing—I don’t love the idea of my face being plastered all over the internet. I run a business, not a reality TV show. The only drama I want is in my fantasy novels, not in my marketing strategy.
Product Videos: Great Idea, But Where’s My Treasure Hoard?
Then there are the suggestions to make product videos. Apparently, people need to see things in action before buying them—who knew? But it’s not exactly as if I have a bottomless pit of finances or unlimited storage space to keep stacks of stock just for filming. Last time I checked, I wasn’t secretly a dragon hoarding treasure (though that would make my branding a lot more authentic).
Want to See Me Smile? Buy More Tea and Coffee!
So, here’s an idea—if you want to support a small business and also see me smile just a little bit more (which, let’s be honest, is a win-win for everyone), buy more products! Every order helps keep Onyx Dragon alive, keeps me caffeinated, and reduces the chance of me spiraling into a monologue about social media woes.
The Future: Stubbornness, Caffeine, and Hope
Despite all of this, I’m still here, still fighting, and still refusing to let Onyx Dragon go up in flames (unless it’s for some cool dragon-themed rebranding, in which case, I’ll consider it). Running a business isn’t always about crushing goals and hitting milestones—sometimes it’s about sheer stubbornness and caffeine.
To those who have supported Onyx Dragon through the years, you’re the real MVPs. Here’s to hoping for better times ahead, fewer noise complaints (on both sides), and maybe—just maybe—a social media strategy that doesn’t require me to become an influencer.
